FAQs For The 2024 China-US Young Maker Competition and China-US High School Students Robotics Innovation Invitational Event

Q: We are Canadian citizens living in the U.S. Can my kids join the summer program?
A: Participants must hold a U.S. passport.

Q: My kids have no technical background in robotics. Can they still participate?
A: Definitely! Students can learn a lot from attending the robotics workshop.

Q: We already have other plans this summer. Can my kids join the robotics workshop/competition and skip the study tour?
A: Yes, but you would have to pick up your kids after the awarding ceremony on 08/12 and/or arrange your own transportation since there will be no airport drop-off service that day. The host organization can help you hail a cab/taxi if needed.

Q: Will there be local teachers (US-based) joining the group to the summer program?
A: Yes, there will be chaperone/s with U.S. background to accompany the student group.

Q: What areas/countries are the participants from? Is the summer program exclusively for Americans?
A: In our programs, only the U.S.

Q: When will I know if my kids are accepted into the summer program?
A: Participants are automatically accepted into the summer program for as long as they meet the eligibility requirements (i.e., must hold a U.S. passport (with a valid Chinese visa); 8th Grade graduates and above). But of course, we need to meet the minimum enrollment first in order to confirm the summer program, no later than the application deadline date.

Q: Should I already buy plane tickets after registering and paying the registration fee?
A: We suggest to wait until we confirm the summer program no later than the application deadline date. Please stay tuned!

Q: Where do participants meet up with the group? Where do I buy plane tickets to?
A: Please buy your tickets all the way to Beijing Capital International Airport. We have no meetup spot in the U.S. because the participants will come from all around of the states.

Q: Does a parent have to accompany the kids to the summer program?
A: Not really, as long as the student is old enough to navigate the airport alone. If needed, you may also check with your respective airline for unaccompanied minor service. Upon arrival at the destination airport, there will be airport pickup service for participants. All activities, tours, land transportation within China are pre-arranged to ensure a seamless process. At the end of the summer program, there will also be airport drop-off service to Beijing Capital International Airport.

Q: What is the accommodation arrangement? Will participants stay in a hotel or dormitory or others? How about the room type – single room or shared room?
A: For the first part of the summer program (robotics competition), participants will stay at the China Song Qingling Teenager Technology Cultural Exchange Center (宋庆龄青少年科技交流中心). For the second part (study tour), the exact hotel/s is not yet available, but the program will provide very good accommodation at a 3-star or 4-star hotel. 1-2 students will share a room.

Q: Can you help to secure a visa?
A: Yes, one benefit of this program is that we can help you to apply for 口岸签证 (port visa), with which you can arrive in China from any customs such as air, boats, railway, etc., The type of visa is only valid for 30 days and must be applied as a group. So, if you still have more than 2 weeks prior to the summer program, we strongly recommend getting a regular Tourist Visa (L) from the Chinese Embassy since you can get a 10-year multiple entry visa, which is better and more cost-efficient, esp. if the student is a Chinese American.

Q: When is the last day of the summer program?
A: 08/16 is technically the last day of the summer program. Participants will be on their way back to Beijing from Shandong on the 16th, so the return flight to the U.S. should be on 08/17. We suggest not to book the early flights on the 17th.
