Introduction of Culture Experience Short-term Programs at SWJTU
Southwest Jiaotong University (SWJTU), capitalizing on its distinct academic characteristics and commitment to international education, has successfully organized multiple cultural experience short-term programs. This program, organized by SWJTU, offers event planning, local reception, and manpower support. It aims to provide American youth with a unique opportunity to gain a profound understanding of Chinese culture, history, and society. The program conducts an in-depth exploration of global issues such as "Green Transportation and Sustainable Development" and "Wildlife Ecosystem Protection". This exploration is framed within a global context, drawing on the participants' cultural experiences and study tours in China.
The program features a well-organized and diverse itinerary, designed to promote intercultural understanding and offer enriching experiences. The participants will explore ancient Chinese civilization in Sichuan, gain a deeper appreciation of modern China in Chengdu, and observe China's technological progress through high-speed rail journeys. The nine-day itinerary includes visits to four UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Sichuan, offering participants the opportunity to immerse themselves in China's intangible cultural heritage. The journey features rides on China's high-speed trains and a visit to State Key Laboratory of Rail Transit Vehicle System at Southwest Jiaotong University. This experience aims to provide insights into the future of green transportation in China while allowing the participants to explore the unique regional culture and humanistic landscape of Sichuan. This program offers a unique opportunity for volunteers to engage with giant pandas. Participants can experience panda breeder, learn how to raise pandas, and receive an honorary certificate from the China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda after completing volunteer work. Only 100 of these certificates are distributed worldwide each day. In addition, this program has been meticulously designed with the participants in mind, organizing exchange activities between Chinese and international students to enrich their learning experience.
We earnestly hope that the students participating in this project will foster mutual understanding through dialog, gain immersive knowledge through exploration, and develop practical skills through hands-on experience. We hope participants will engage in thorough discussions on sustainable development, ecological preservation, and cultural heritage restoration. They will have the opportunity to volunteer in giant panda conservation, explore China's intangible cultural heritage, and gain a deep appreciation for the country's rapid advancements and rich historical and cultural legacy. Through these experiences, they will enhance their understanding of China. The Southwest Jiaotong University team aims to use this program as a strategic platform that integrates Chinese cultural attributes with global issues. Their goal is to enhance the quality of exchange short-term programs by continuously developing exemplary initiatives between China and the United States, addressing the growing demand for international collaboration. They are committed to innovating new formats for short-term programs in China that align with the American educational system and its specific needs. This approach seeks to foster effective and friendly exchanges, thereby enhancing mutual understanding among young students from both China and the United States.

Introduction of Southwest Jiaotong University
Southwest Jiaotong University (SWJTU) traces its origins back to 1896, when its predecessor institution, the Imperial Chinese Railway College, was established as the first institution in China dedicated to higher engineering education. Renowned as the birthplace of civil engineering, mining and metallurgical engineering, and transportation engineering education in the nation, SWJTU is revered as the "cradle of railway engineers in China". Throughout its illustrious history, SWJTU has nurtured and produced over 300,000 graduates.
SWJTU is located in Chengdu, the capital city of Sichuan province. It encompasses 27 schools and centers, catering to 47 thousand students, and supported by over 2700 full-time faculty members. SWJTU takes pride in its distinct strength in rail transit disciplines, positioning it as one of China's leading institutions. Currently, the university is progressing towards its goal of becoming a world-class institution recognized for its exceptional transportation expertise. SWJTU has attained remarkable achievements in various engineering disciplines. Its Transportation Engineering discipline upholds the position as the foremost in China, with an impressive A+ ranking. Furthermore, Civil Engineering discipline has secured a place within the top 30 globally. The Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering place among the top 50 in the world. The university's dedication to engineering excellence extends further, with recognition by the ESI, placing it in the elite top 1‰. Notably, six disciplines, including computer science, materials science, and chemistry, have earned placements within the top 1% of the ESI. The University has been actively involved in and has played an irreplaceable role in the development of China's High-speed Railway.
SWJTU has established several national key scientific research platforms, including the State Laboratory of Rail Transit (currently under preparation), the State Key Laboratory of Rail Transit Vehicle System, the State Key Laboratory of Bridge Intelligence and Green Construction, and the State Key Laboratory of Extreme Environmental Geotechnical and Tunnel Engineering Intelligent Construction and Maintenance. In addition, the National Basic Science Center for Modern Railway Dynamics and Transport Safety has been approved. Furthermore, SWJTU is actively promoting the construction of two large-scale research facilities: the "Multi-State Coupled Rail Transit Dynamic Model Test Platform" and the "Quasi-Axisymmetric Stellarator".
With a commitment to international education, SWJTU has forged extensive collaborations with over 200 universities and scientific research institutions across 60 countries and regions. In partnership with the University of Leeds in the UK, SWJTU has established "Southwest Jiaotong University-Leeds Joint School". Furthermore, SWJTU has taken the lead in founding the Education Alliance for International Railway Talents. Additionally, in collaboration with Khon Kaen University in Thailand, SWJTU has co-constructed the Tianyou Railway Institute. Currently it is in the process of constructing the Chengdu Eastern (International) Campus, which will further enhance their international educational offerings.
